The Envy Of Super Cat Fest

As you read this, Envy, an outrageous 50-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran well-known to go-fast boating enthusiasts, is heading to the Lake of Ozarks in Central Missouri. Built in 2014, the twin Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engine-powered boat will be displayed this week during Wednesday night’s Shootout On The Dam exhibition—a Lake of the Ozarks Shootout staple—sponsored by Waves And Wheels before being moved to the docks at the Camden On The Lake Resort, the host venue for this week’s Super Cat Fest happening.

Though the cat will run on the waterway throughout the weekend, Envy fans won’t catch it competing on the three-quarter-mile Lake of the Ozarks Shootout course.

“There was talk about throwing in the Mercury Racing 1650s and playing in the Shootout, but I think restaurant-hopping is more my speed,” said Chris Cox, the New York-based former owner of the boat, with a hearty laugh. “We’ll run it on the lake in 1350 mode during the weekend in the 140- to 150-mph range.”

Careful readers will notice Cox, who will run the boat with various cockpit mates including Mystic’s John Cosker and Ryan Zvitski, as well as longtime offshore racing teammate Herb Stotler, identified above as the former owner of the canopied cat. That’s because he’s traded in the 50-footer, as well as another turbine-powered 50-foot Mystic cat, to the its manufacturer in DeLand, Fla., “on some new toys.”

“We’re keeping those under wraps right now,” said Cox. “One of them is pretty close, the other one we have a production slot for.

“I’m a Mystic guy, and the guys at Mystic are the best,” he said. “You have to like the boat you’re buying, but you have to like the people you’re buying it from even better.”
