Third Annual Shoot 2 Thrill New Year’s Eve Photo Shoot Delivers

Pete Boden, speedonthewater.com’s chief photographer and the man behind Shoot 2 Thrill Pix, will be the first person to tell you he doesn’t like shooting flat-water events. The meaner the water gets, the more he enjoys capturing high-performance catamarans and V-bottoms tackling it.

So while yesterday’s lunch run from Sarasota, Fla., to Hula Bay Waterside Restaurant in Tampa, was a bit of a snoozer for the talented shooter, today’s photo session in the Gulf of Mexico—with many of the same boats—delivered just what he was looking for.

Boden estimated the seas at “two to three feet with the occasional hole.”

“But don’t ask me,” he said, then laughed. “Ask the people who were running in it—they’ll tell you it was 10 feet.”

Boden was joking, of course, though he said the lumpy water caused a few folks to opt out of today’s photo session. But he was delighted to come back with a gallery of images that included boats actually leaving the water. As you can see from the photo at the top of this story and in the slideshow below, a few left it in a pretty big way.

Tomorrow, Boden will shoot the ninth annual Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run and, like you, we’re looking forward to seeing (and publishing) what he brings back. Meanwhile, we hope you enjoy his work from today.
