xxx gulfcoast2It wasn’t easy for Louisiana’s Michael Pierce to put XXX, the iconic canopied Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats 47 GTX, up for sale nearly two years after purchasing the 47-foot V-bottom and updating a few things to make it his own. Not only did he appreciate the boat’s history, he used the heck out of it.

The potential future with another one-of-a-kind boat just might ease the pain. It also helps that he sold the boat to one of his friends in the performance boat community, Cass Shewbart (right with engines) of League City, Texas. Which basically means he can catch a ride whenever he wants.

“I got a good look at the boat at the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run and I really liked the improvements Michael had done,” said Shewbart, who also owns Liquid Prozac, a Cigarette Racing Team 38 Top Gun with twin Mercury Racing 525EFI engines that have been redone by Ownes Racing Engines in Pearland, Texas. “I knew some of the history with the boat so when I saw it was for sale at Performance Boat Center, I called Mike and made a deal over the phone. I told him to bring it to Texas and keep it in our boating family of friends. He has an open seat anytime he wants!”

Shewbart said the boat is currently at Gulf Coast Complete Marine Service in Kemah, Texas, getting some attention to make sure it’s ready for the 2017 boating season. Because David Whelan and the Gulf Coast team are set to refresh the engines and drives on XXX, Shewbart is going to be using Liquid Prozac on the upcoming Key West Poker Run (Nov. 9-14) organized by the Florida Powerboat Club.

“I’m planning to have some fun with the boat next season for sure,” Shewbart said. “But first it has to be dependable—I’m not the guy with the hatch up halfway to the first stop. David has some ideas to make it more user friendly and I think we’re going to put the XXX logo back on the hullsides with the carbon-fiber look like the logo on the engine’s valve covers.”
