Aluminum Prints Dominating Shoot 2 Thrill Pix Orders

In any normal year, photographer Pete Boden would be gearing up to shoot high-performance boating events around the country for speedonthewater.com. And while that may still happen, this is—as we’re all painfully aware—no normal year. Like most of us, Boden, who lives in Southwest Florida but has a second home in Northern Michigan, is sheltered in place per COVID-19 pandemic mandates.

But that doesn’t mean the retired Navy veteran is sitting still. He’s been using his time producing and shipping prints for high-performance powerboat owners around the country. The overwhelming majority of those images, he said during a text-message conversation yesterday, are printed on aluminum.

“My print orders are 90 percent metal and 7 percent paper,” Boden said. “The other 3 percent buy digital files.

“The number one reason people order metal prints is they are ready to go on the wall when they receive them,” he continued. “They don’t have to go to a frame shop and spend a bunch of money on matting and framing. Plus, the colors really pop on metal.”

“I love it,” said Yves Belanger of his aluminum print of his 43-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran, which is featured in the new Speed On The Water digital magazine going live tomorrow morning. “It is absolutely stunning.”

Surrounded by his dogs Melkey, Mookie and Milo and with the television news mercifully turned off these days, Boden has stayed busy catching up on metal print orders, as well as filling new ones.

“Darren Kittridge ordered three pics the other day, and another customer just ordered a metal print from the 2018 Four Horsemen Poker Run,” he said. “And I’ve been sending out samples to some West Michigan Offshore people, as well as posting images on my Shoot 2 Thrill Pix Faceback page and speedonthewater.com.”

If the currently scheduled events hold to their original dates, next up on Boden’s shooting schedule is the Jacksonville River Rally and Poker Run (May 14-17) in Jacksonville, Fla., followed by the Four Horsemen Poker Run (June 12-14) in Oshkosh, Wis., and the Cigarette Racing Team Owners Rendezvous, June 18-21) on the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri.

New Jersey-based MTI 340X owner Bob Christie gave this metal print of Matt Trulio behind the wheel of his 34-foot sport catamaran.

“Normally, once the season starts getting to and from events, editing images for speedonthewater, updating social media and boating sites leaves me very little time to handle orders and keep up,” Boden said. “So it is a nice break to catch up.”
