APBA Offshore Championship Releases TV And Livestream Plans

The result of a collaboration between the Offshore Powerboat Association and Powerboat P1, the six-race American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship series, which kicks off next month in Cocoa Beach, Fla., will capture its Cocoa Beach, Sarasota and Clearwater contests (both in Florida) for a trio of television programs. The hour-long shows will air first on CBS Sports Network, then on Fox Sports Florida/Sun and additional Fox Sports networks.

The planned CBS Sports Network air dates and times for the programs are:

•Sunday, June 16, 1 p.m.—Thunder On Cocoa Beach/Space Coast Grand Prix (May 17-19).
•Sunday, August 4, 3 p.m.—Sarasota Power Boat Grand Prix (July 6-7).

While the tentative air date for NBC Sports Network program covering the Clearwater (Sept. 28-29) contest is Sunday, October 20, 12 p.m., longtime Clearwater event organizer Frank Chivas is waiting for the decision on the five-year race promoter contract to be finalized before making a final and official announcement of the venue’s offshore racing future. The Key West City Commission reportedly will finalize the race promoter contract next month.

All six races will be covered in real time online via Livestream. Azam Rangoonwala, the chief executive officer of Powerboat P1, is still finalizing the details, but the Livestream broadcast team most likely will consist of veteran offshore racing announcers Martin Sanborn and Mike Yowaiski.

There currently are no national television program coverage plans for the Lake Race (June 1-2) in Central Missouri, the St. Clair River Classic (July 27-28) in Michigan and Great Lakes Grand Prix (Aug. 3-4) in Indiana at this time.
