Battle for DCB Supremacy Tight Heading Into GLOC Shootout Day Two

Despite that the American Ethanol Mystic Powerboats catamaran wrapped up the Top Gun trophy yesterday with a 200-mph run, there’s still plenty of competition left today at the GLOC Performance Boat Challenge Shootout in Grove, Okla. In fact, in today’s final runs the chase for second place is coming down to a tight battle between a trio DCB Performance Boats catamarans on the three-quarters-of-a-mile course.

DCB’s own Tony Chiaramonte drove No Boundaries, Oklahoman Shawn and Stacy Gibson’s M35 cat with Mercury Racing 1550 engines, to yesterday’s second-fastest speed of 170 mph. Local favorite Carlton Bass chased Chiaramonte with a 163-mph run in Cat’s Ass, still another 35-footer with Mercury Racing 1350 power. They were followed by throttleman J.P. O’Donoghue and driver Brad Kloepfer with a 160-mph blast in the famed Lickity Split M35 cat powered by Mercury Racing 1350s.

The next closest top speed came from yet another DCB as Mark Schouten ran 142 mph in El Gato Patron, his 41-foot Widebody catamaran powered by Mercury Racing 1350 engines.
