Bigger Power Drives True-Blue Nor-Tech Buyer To New 390

The owner of Sportboats Marine in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., John Kray started his business in 1993. He has been a Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats dealer since 2010. Since then, he has seen the company’s center console line flourish and has delivered more Nor-Tech models than he can remember to buyers in Southwest Florida.

But Kray’s most recent delivery of a Nor-Tech 390 Sport CC could be one he’ll never forget, because with the exception of quad Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines and a few other options the boat is almost identical to the owner’s previous 39-footer.

“He absolutely loved that boat, which had quad Mercury Marine Verado 300s,” said Kray. “He bought it from me in 2014 and it had 1,000 hours on it when he traded it in for a new one. I had absolutely no trouble reselling it because of the wonderful care he took of it. Honestly, it looked better than some boats I see with 100 or 200 hours on them.

“He loved that boat so much that he originally wanted to repower it with 450s,” he continued. “He’s a longtime customer who has bought several boat from us during the years and we have a great relationship. After a lot of discussion, he decided that trading in his old boat and going with a new one was the best option.”

Though the 390 is predominantly dressed in similar Tiffany-style blue hues inside and out, it also boasts several upgrades beyond the 450-hp supercharged V-8 outboards. The 39-footer features the Fort Myers, Fla., company’s longer, wider and brawnier top with a SureShade power-Bimini extension. It also has Nor-Tech’s popular Club Sport rear lounge, as well as custom bow-lounges.

To arrive at the perfect blue shade, Kray had his customer look to the luxury automobile world rather than the boating realm. They worked through various color swatches to provide to the team at Nor-Tech when it came time to paint the boat.

“The deck is white, as is the bottom of the boat, but the hullsides and underside of the top are the blue he chose,” said Kray. “The interior of the bulkheads are blue—upholstery is the white with gray quilted stitching and gray piping.

“It’s beautiful boat,” he added. “And the customer loves it.”
