Boating United Calling For Comments On EPA Ethanol Plans

According to a press release from Boating United, a “grassroots platform for the recreational boating industry” including the National Marine Manufacturer’s Association, the Environmental Protection Agency recently announced plans to further increase ethanol mandates for fuel in the United States, “surpassing the current record high levels finalized less than one year ago.”

In 2017, E15 and higher blends of ethanol-blended fuels that can be destructive to marine engines “are expected to grow to some 2,000 fuel stations” as part of the EPA plan, according to the release. The release also stated that EPA plan calls for increasing supplies of these fuels to approximately 1 billion gallons and reducing the supply of E0 (non-ethanol) fuel from 5.1 billion gallons to 200 million gallons.

“The good news is that this is still just a Washington proposal, and that we can help correct the error before it becomes finalized,” the release stated. “But that means we must mobilize as an industry and tell the EPA to keep high ethanol blends out of our fuel supply.”

To that end, Boating United has set up a comment page for those wishing to express their opinions on the proposal to the EPA.
