Buffalo Poker Run Sold Out

Slated for August 8-9, the Western New York Offshore Powerboat Association’s Buffalo Poker Run officially sold out yesterday. Slot No. 100 went to Canadian Bob Barnhart, a Toronto-area resident who is one of the founders of Fort Myers Offshore and spend his winters in Marco Island, Fla.

“I’ve heard such good things about that event,” Barnhart wrote on his Facebook page. “I will bring the Renegade for something a bit different in that part of the world. I was born in Fort Erie right across from Buffalo and spent much time on the Niagara River and eastern Lake Erie as a kid—it will be neat to be back on the river after so many years.”

Event organizer Anthony Scioli reemphasized (read the story) said that while all of the available 100 slots for boats have been filled the organizers may open additional registration before the event. The recent sell-out is an unprecedented success for the event, which celebrates its 23rd anniversary this year, and the organizers have already started a waiting list.

“We expected to sell out but not until sometime in June,” Scioli explained. “Last year we accepted 102 boats but ended registration one week prior to help with the organization of that number of boats. Last year’s number included sponsor boats, and this year only a few of those are included in the total number.

“We had always had a strong 60-plus boats show up before last year, which we were happy with,” he added. “We already have people on a waiting list. Boats registered can expect an official registration packet sometime in early June and will be asked to return it by July 1. After then we will look at all the numbers and address the waiting list.”
