Chattanooga River Run Still A Go

With the 37 entries not counting sponsors boats, the Chattanooga River Run is more than halfway to its 75-boat capacity. That has Justin Lucas, one of the organizers of the July 31-August 1 Tennessee-based event.

“I thought we would sell out pretty quickly but everyone is hesitant to pre-register for anything these days,” he said in reference to the toll the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on organized boating events so far this year.

Last week, the organizers cleared a potential hurdle. The Saturday night dinner celebration and awards ceremony will be held outdoors and socially distanced in compliance with state and federal COVID-19 pandemic guidelines.

“It is important that we have an accurate headcount for the dinner venue,” they wrote on the Tennessee Powerboat Club Facebook page. “So if you’re planning on attending get registered.”

If the run has to be cancelled, as has been the case so far with most organized go-fast boating events this season, registration fees will be refunded, according to Lucas. “But there’s no reason Chattanooga should be cancelled,” he said.
