For the past four years, Checkmate Powerboats owners have gathered on Kentucky’s Lake Cumberland for a rally organized by owners with no involvement from the mothership in Bucyrus, Ohio. This year a few folks from the company joined the fun and rented a houseboat for the weekend to support its customers.

Lake Cumberland's 76 Falls is a sight to see.Way to go Checkmate (wink).

Essentially rained out, the 22 boat owners and their guests rallied and rafted up for a couple hours after noon during a break in the weather Saturday. Were they disappointed they didn’t get to enjoy Cumberland’s hot spots like Harmon Creek and 76 Falls (although some people made it to the falls as you can see)? Of course they were.

But, as Checkmate General Manager Dean Reynolds said, there was still plenty of Checkmate camaraderie to go around.

“The weather hurt us as far as participation goes,” said Reynolds, who delivered a new 24-footer last Wednesday to a customer who decided not to attend the rally because he didn’t want to have it rain on his new boat. “We made the best of it and ate well, that’s for sure. We turned our catered evening barbecue into a late lunch/early dinner and everyone had fun. There was a good variety of boats in attendance, including the big 43 Punisher. We even had someone with a Hustler 388 Slingshot show up.”

More Checkmate owners are set to gather this weekend in Canada as the Muskoka Checkmate Rally is taking place on Saturday (July 26).
