New Boats from Hustler and Checkmate Ready for Miami

With a goal of getting younger boaters into powerboating, Global Marine Power—the Calverton, N.Y., company behind Checkmate Powerboats and Hustler Powerboats—is preparing almost a half-dozen boats for next month’s Miami International Boat Show (Feb. 13-17).

Joe LoGiudice, president of Global Marine Power, which purchased Checkmate last summer, said the company is going to have three boats from Hustler on display along with two models from Checkmate—the first time in many years the Bucyrus, Ohio, company has had a presence at the Miami show.

“Our main goal is to address the 19- to 29-year-old group,” LoGiudice said. “When it comes to performance boats, our industry has kind of left those boaters by the wayside. Mainly we just want to get more people boating. And a Checkmate is a perfect place to start because it’s an entry-level boat at an entry-level price. Yet even at Hustler we’ve got single-engine 29-footers and other boats with warrantied power that are pretty affordable.”

LoGiudice said Hustler is going to have a 29 Rockit with a Mercury Racing 565 engine, a 388 Reloaded with a pair of Mercury Racing’s new 520 engines and a 39 Rockit with twin Cummins diesel engines on display. A 250 SFX fishing boat and a 2400 BRX—with “phenomenal new gelcoat graphics,” according to LoGiudice—from Checkmate will be showcased in the same booth (No. 3221 on the main aisle outside the convention center).
