Gary Stray, the crew chief and team manager for the Miss GEICO Offshore Racing team has been working closely with exhaust manufacturing leader Custom Marine Inc., to develop aftermarket headers for Mercury Racing‘s 1,100-, 1,350- and 1,650-hp quad overhead cam turbocharged engines. According to Marc Granet, the driver of the team’s 44-foot catamaran with twin Mercury Racing 1650s, the header project has been going on for the past six months. The first set will be used on Miss GEICO‘s engines during the 2015 offshore racing season.

“Gary has been working closely with Chris Morth at CMI on the design,” Granet said. “The focus has been on efficiency and reliability under extreme use and conditions.”

The first pair of new CMI headers will be on display at the Miss GEICO Offshore Racing exhibit during the Miami International Boat Show, which opens Thursday morning. A display on the new products, which are expected to be available to the public by spring, will also be set in the CMI booth inside the Miami Beach Convention Center.
