Day’s Boat Sales Excited About Entering Lucas Oil-Backed Fountain 35 Lightning In Poker Runs

Rather than wrap another one of his team’s fishing boats for the 2019 season, Bill Day, owner of Day’s Boat Sales in Frankfort, Ky., decided to dedicate some additional time and resources toward a little poker run fun in support of his longtime sponsor, Lucas Oil—and it just so happened he had the perfect boat for the job.

Now wrapped in an edgy, hard-to-miss, red, white and blue wrap courtesy of Sign Designs in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., the 2002 Fountain Powerboats 35 Lightning is powered by twin Mercury Racing 575SCi engines and features a new JL Audio stereo system. Day, who purchased the 35-footer—the first twin-engine boat he’s owned personally—almost two years ago, said he’s excited to take the Fountain to the two large local poker runs near him, the Lake Cumberland Thunder Run in June and the Lake Cumberland Poker Run in September.

He said he’s also considering using the 35 Lightning, which was a single-owner boat in excellent condition with just 154 hours—freshwater only, he added—on the motors, for the Old Hickory Fun Run, Raft-Up and Bar Crawl in Nashville and the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri. The Day’s Boat Sales Team may even participate in a couple of Florida Powerboat Club events like the Emerald Coast Powerboat Poker Run and Key West Poker Run, although it would be in one of its center console models as Day wants to keep the 35-foot Fountain in freshwater.

“The boat is almost too perfect to do anything to it, it’s in that good of shape,” Day said, adding that at each event his team attends, it will have a full Lucas Oil display on hand. “Besides wrapping the boat, we’ve spruced up the interior a little and we’re going to add some SeaDek to it and change the steering wheel before we take it poker running. It really is an awesome boat. It runs perfectly—it’s a 90-mph boat that gets on pad like a Wave Runner.”

Day, who is starting to get used to the performance boat scene, made sure to thank the team’s longtime sponsor.
