DCB Scores High Praise And Sales With New M37R

For any manufacturer exhibiting at a boat show such as this week’s Super Cat Fest at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, the goal is selling boats. The ancillary marketing benefits of brand exposure and supporting customers who display their own rides deliver undeniable value, but they are secondary to sales.

That’s especially true for a manufacturer such as DCB Performance Boats of El Cajon, Calif., which is showcasing its first new M37R Widebody full-tunnel catamaran powered by Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines at the event. DCB’s Jeff Johnston and Tony Chiaramonte arrived at this week’s happening, which ends today, with eight 37-footers sold. They will head home with two more sales confirmed and, if today goes particularly well, one or two more.

“The reaction to the M37R has been over the top,” Johnston said. “We expected it to be good—it’s an incredible boat and obviously we’re proud of it—but the reception to it exceeded our expectations. Honestly, it’s humbling and, of course, gratifying.”

“It’s not just the handling and performance, which are right out of the box are exceptional,” said Chiaramonte, who piloted the 37-footer to 120 mph this morning at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and yesterday ran a DCB M31 Widebody with twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines to 147 mph in the top-speed contest.. “There are lot great cats out there in this size range, but the interior detail work on this one is at another level.”

Among the Super Cat Fest attendees who spent a bit of time behind the wheel was two-time F1 H2O tunnel boat champion and speedonthewater.com test team member Shaun Torrente. The uber-skilled Floridian liked what he saw.

“Jason Johnson of speedonthewater.com asked me if I could run it and Tony Chiaramonte wanted me to run it and I was thoroughly impressed, especially with the lack of setup time,” Torrente said. “This is hull No. 1. Performance was excellent and it handled really well.

“The lines on the boat are great and, being a DCB, of course it’s beautifully finished,” he continued. “I also liked that the cockpit is big and there’s plenty of space to move around, and the rear hatches are really easy to access. I think this is going to be home run for DCB and I believe it’s going to make them more of a national brand.”

Chiaramonte and Johnston couldn’t be more pleased with the results of the outboard-powered 37-footer’s debut.
