With a revitalized picturesque Lake Erie waterfront area, the venue offers spectacular views over the racecourse. Spectators can enjoy the unique vantage points at the Dunkirk Light House Park on Point Gratiot along with weekend festivities including live music from seven different bands, a variety of vendors and historical reenactments of the French Indian War.

Spearheading the end-of-the-summer event for the community was Mayor Wilfred Rosas.

“There is a lot excitement in the city—hotels are sold out,” Rosas said. “This is the type of event I wanted to showcase our waterfront. This is going to be a big boost to our economy. The merchants and restaurants at the boardwalk, the beachfront and the surrounding area will be ready for race fans.”

Hosted on the Race World Offshore website, live coverage of the Great Lakes Offshore Grand Prix is going to feature multi-camera course coverage produced by American Performance Media. The race also will be produced for broadcast on the CBS Sports Network in February 2019.

Larry Bleil, founder of Race World Offshore, said the synergy that came together for the livestream has been amazing.

“People really came together with the livestream—Mark Waddington of Performance Boat Center in Lake of the Ozarks and South Florida and DFT Communications of Chautauqua County really stepped up to make this happen,” Bleil said.

Live Facebook updates are going to take place leading up to the race by offshore broadcast veterans Todd Swofford and Marilyn DeMartini, with livestream race coverage beginning Sunday at 11:30 a.m. EDT at raceworldoffshore.global.

Editor’s note: A veteran offshore powerboat racing reporter, Todd Swofford is a host for WKWF sports radio in Key West, Fla.
