Skater 30 Prototype Project Hits the Water, Next Stop Super Cat Fest

There’s no one more excited than Dale Rayzor about his unique Skater Powerboats 30 Prototype catamaran hitting the water for an initial shakedown cruise earlier today in Douglas, Mich. But there are a lot of people who are a close second.

Surely Rayzor’s friends looking for a ride in the boat will be calling soon. And, of course, Bobby VanDine and the rest of Peter Hledin’s talented team at Skater who rigged the boat are stoked about the rebuild. Chris Mills and the Boat Customs team that repainted the boat Mills had his hands on when it was new in 2005 are thrilled with how the project came together.

Add the team at Speedonthewater.com to that list since it will get its hands on the 30-foot Skater that was repowered with new Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard engines—amongst many other updates—next week during the Sport Cat Roundup held Super Cat Fest at Camden on the Lake Resort in Lake Ozarks, Mo. That’s right, Rayzor, who hopes to drive his “new” boat on Wednesday, is going to be part of next Thursday’s photo shoot with speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden and evaluation with professional test drivers Bob Teague, Grant Bruggemann and Shaun Torrente.

Rayzor, who lives in Discovery Bay, Calif., didn’t plan on taking delivery of the boat in Missouri, but he said he’s going to take full advantage of Super Cat Fest and the other Lake of the Ozarks Shootout activities. Understandably so, because he hasn’t had time to test the boat, he doesn’t think he’s going to make any top-speed runs on the Shootout’s three-quarter-mile course.

“The boat looks great in the water,” Rayzor said after seeing pictures of the teal, black and gray beauty today. “I was just back there last week to check in on it and attend Skaterfest, which by the way is incredible. I’m going to go every year whether I take my boat or not. I got to ride with Matt (Garland) and Kenny (Ray Schomp) in their gold 40, and I also got to ride in Ron Szolack’s new 388. What a fun time.”

According to Rayzor, VanDine said the boat ran great. VanDine was not doing any special testing or attempts to run a top speed, he just put the 30-footer through the paces to break in the engines and make sure everything was working properly.

The next stop is Lake of the Ozarks, where the Skater 30 Prototype we’ve followed every step of the way is sure to be a highlight of Super Cat Fest.
