Skater 30 Prototype Project Moves One Step Closer With Outboards Installed

With a target of getting his unique Skater Powerboats 30 Prototype catamaran with new Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard engines on the water by the end of June, Dale Rayzor of Discovery Bay, Calif., remains eager to see progress on his boat. The most recent images to come out of the Douglas, Mich., facility have given him hope, he said, that he’ll be water-testing by the end of the month.

With its outboard engines installed, Dale Rayzor’s 30-foot beauty is closer to completion and could be on the water by the end of June.

“It looks like the holes for the deck hardware have been cut and that the hardware is mostly installed,” he said. “The brackets for the outboards have been mounted and the outboards have been hung. The windshield has been cut down. The interior is finished and is ready to install.

“After seeing all those pictures, I think it could be ready in time,” he continued. “The boat has to go back to Chris Mills at Boat Customs for another layer of Clear Cote after it leaves Skater, but if the schedule holds we can spend July and most of August dialing it in the for the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout at the end of that month.”

Viewers will notice the boarding steps between the 400-hp outboard engines. That feature was created as a conversion from the 30-footer’s original bustle, which included a stowage locker for fenders when the boat was set up with inboard Sterling Performance Engines power and stern drives.
