Emerald Coast Foundation Still Fundraising In Poker Run Absence

Not to be confused with the annual mid-August Florida Powerboat Club’s Emerald Coast Poker Run in the Destin, Fla., area, the Emerald Coast Foundation has an Emerald Coast Poker Run of its own as part of its Boat Week. The event is geared toward a more-general powerboating audience than the FPC happening, which is targeted at high-performance powerboat enthusiasts.

Though the Emerald Coast Foundation-backed poker run didn’t happen this year, organizers are still working to raise funds for the nonprofit organization.

As has been the unfortunate case with so many events this year, the organizers of the nonprofit organization’s run cancelled their early August happening in light of COVID-19 pandemic safety concerns. But that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped their fundraising efforts.

“In an effort to still help local charities, we have shifted to another plan,’’ said Shaun Ritter, one of the event’s key organizers.

That plan is the “The Great Emerald Coast Poker Run Draw Down,” a fundraising game of chance. For every $100 donated to the Emerald Coast Foundation, the donor receives one entry/ticket to win $10,000 and a one-night stay in the IP Casino and Resort in Biloxi, Miss. The fundraiser is limited to 500 donors.

The live drawing happen on October 25 at the casino venue. In addition to cash prizes for several tickets pulled throughout the drawing, non-cash prizes will be distributed for every twentieth ticket drawn. Every ticket drawn also earns the ticket-holder a one-night stay at the resort.

The holder of the final ticket drawn—No. 500—will win the $10,000 grand prize.

“We are so very thankful during this crazy time and pandemic—the IP has stepped up huge to help support us,” said Ritter. “Our goal is to hopefully provide each charity supported by the Emerald Coast Foundation with at least $20,000, if not more.”
