Envy Coming To Key West

Chris Cox, the owner of Envy—a 50-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran that competes in Super Boat International’s Unlimited class—has confirmed that he’ll race with Herb Stotler at the upcoming SBI World Championships in Key West, Fla. What’s more, Cox has purchased and installed a pair of Mercury Racing 1650 engines in the boat.

Earlier this season, the team embarked on a new Stotler Racing Engines turbocharged engine program. While the program reportedly has moved forward, business commitments have kept Cox and Stotler off the racecourse this year.

Cox emphasized that his new Mercury Racing mills do not represent a total departure from the Stotler power program.

“I’m not jumping ship—the Stotler ship,” he said. “In fact, it’s quite the opposite. I had the opportunity to purchase and install these (Mercury Racing) motors. That said, I will now have exact test data to compare against by new (Stotler) turbo engines—call it beta testing—all while having some fun.

“Herb has embraced this and has been doing a great job in the process,” he added. “We’ve also had some help from our friends Randy (Scism), Johnny (Tomlinson) and Bob (Bull).
