Faces Of LEOPA Thunderfest
Last weekend’s Lake Erie Offshore Performance Association Thunderfest Poker Run in Ohio, which you can read about in Jason Johnson’s fine story, delivered plenty of killer high-performance hardware from Cigarette Racing Team, Fountain Powerboats, Nor-Tech, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, Skater Powerboats and more. But it also attracted performance-boat enthusiasts from around the country including Washington-based Jason and Laurie Moe, the owners of the Hurry Up 46 Outerlimits catamaran, Anthony Scioli of Western New York-based Elite Poker Runs, Kentucky’s own Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design and Southern California’s Devin Wozencraft of Wozencraft Insurance Agency.
Cigarette Maximus owners Jeff and Denise Lockard of Michigan and their crew showed up in style at the LEOPA Thunderfest Poker Run.
As he does after every event he tackles each season, Wozencraft sent us a slew of photos from his weekend on and off the water. And, as usual, he focused on capturing candid images of the people involved.
People, of course, are at the heart of any successful happening. Key to the success of this year’s LEOPA event were Texanita Sander, the organization’s commodore, and Gerry Buie, its vice-commodore.

“Tex and Gerry did a phenomenal job pulling this poker run together and having a great turnout,” said Todd Fountain a multi-time LEOPA Thunderfest Poker Run participant from Michigan who ran Tom Cat, his 46-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran, in the event. “We had a good assortment of boats and a lot of cool people—I saw all of the people I know.”
Added Wozencraft, who counts the run among his favorite events of any given year, “There was a great vibe among all of the participants. It was fantastic.”
Even the coolest hardware doesn’t matter without the people who love it.
