First Liberty-Built Baja 26’ Outlaw in the Water

According to John Walker of Liberty Associates, the parent company of Baja, Donzi, Fountain and Pro-Line in Washington. N.C., the company’s first Baja 26’ Outlaw sportboat is in the water. The model is powered by a 380-hp MerCruiser 8.2 Mag engine.

“We’ve been playing with it for the last couple of days,” said Walker. “I was out in it yesterday.

“Right now, we’re reworking the upholstery,” he added.

The 26-footer will debut during at the All About Boats dealership in Osage Beach, Mo., during the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout August 21-28. (The dealer also carries Liberty’s Pro-Line and Donzi lines.) Originally, the model was scheduled to be unveiled last weekend during a Baja owners group event in Tennessee.

“I was there and I met with the owners, “ said Walker. “We just didn’t have the boat to the point where we were ready to show it yet.”

Walker said three other Baja models are currently in production. The 23’ Outlaw is in the assembly department, the 247 Islander is in lamination and the 277 is in cutting. Those models plus the 26’ Outlaw will serve as Liberty’s Baja prototypes and will be on display at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show.

“We’re planning having at least two (Baja) boats, as well as a 42’ Fountain, at Lake of the Ozarks,” said Walker.

Walker said he expects Baja production for dealers/customers to begin in September.

“It (the re-introduction of Baja) has been tremendously received,” he said. “The biggest problem we’re having is everybody wants them right now.”
