Full Outerlimits Cat Program On Tap For Diorio

In concert with his most recent offshore racing efforts that saw him switch from a single-engine canopied V-bottom to a twin-engine canopied catamaran near the end of the 2019 season, Wisconsin’s Vinnie Diorio will be moving into a 36-foot, Mercury Racing 450R outboard engine-powered pleasure catamaran from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats when hull No. 1 is complete later this year. To that end, Diorio’s Outerlimits SV 43 sportboat is for sale.

“With all that goes into the racing, it makes more sense to have a more-family-oriented, economical boat,” he said. “But I’m not pushing them at Outerlimits. My boat has to sell first, and racing consumes so much of my time.”

For much of the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Diorio ran the Super Vee Extreme-class Marker 17 Marine raceboat—a 29-footer from Outerlimits—with team owner Brian Forehand. Diorio left the Marker 17 Marine campaign to run with Canadian Simon Prevost in a new 39-foot Outerlimits Supercat-class raceboat for the Race World Offshore event in Key West, Fla., in November.

Rookies to the Supercat-class, throttleman Diorio and driver Prevost ran on borrowed power from the M-Con team for the three Key West races as their new Factory Billet Power engines were not completely prepared in time. Those engines are complete and currently undergoing final tuning by Factory Billet’s Mike Faucher before they’ll be installed in the 39-footer dubbed SV Racing shortly after the Miami International Boat Show.

Well-known in poker-run circles, Diorio’s Outerlimits SV 43 currently is for sale.

A speed-lover by nature, Diorio said he doesn’t expect the pleasure-boat transition from a 140-plus-mph sit-down V-bottom to a 120-plus-mph sport catamaran to be a let-down.

“I get so much adrenaline on the racecourse that I can’t say I even miss poker runs,” he said, then chuckled.
