Gallery: MTI Wraps Up Eventful First Day Of Florida Keys Owners Fun Run

With a different agenda than years past, the participants in Thursday’s fifth annual MTI Owners Fun Run to the Florida Keys were treated to an extra long outing from MTI’s sales and service center located at Haulover Marine Center in North Miami to Key West, Fla., where the group is staying the night before heading back toward Miami on Friday for a two-night stay at Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key.

Of the 50 MTI owners who registered for the event, a few of them ran their new boats that were on display at last month’s Miami International Boat Show, including John Caldwell in his 48-foot MTI catamaran and Scott Rosenbach in his new MTI-V 57 luxury performance center console. And a few others took delivery of their new rides just in time for the company’s owner appreciation event, two of which were MTI 390X catamaran models and one was an MTI-V 42 center console. (Look for a couple of delivery stories next week after Brett and Sharon Spraggins and Joe Whisner get a chance to feel out their respective new 39-foot outboard-powered cats.)

There also were new deliveries in the form of pre-owned boats as Michigan performance boater Alex Pratt picked up Johnny O’Loughlin’s latest 48-foot cat, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing dual-calibration 1550/1350 engines, and ran it in the event organized by the talented team at the Wentzville, Mo., company.

While MTI asked photographer Tom Leigh and videographer Carter Bahde to document this year’s fun run, speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden committed the morning and early afternoon to taking some images from a perch on the Card Sound Bridge as well as at the lunch stop at Gilbert’s Resort in Key Largo. The slideshow above features some of his best pictures from the day.

As it has been the last few years, the setting at Gilbert’s with 50 different MTIs tied up together was something special. It’s likely the sight will be just as impressive at Hawks Cay later today.

Editor’s note: Look for a full recap story on the MTI Owners Fun Run following the event, which ends Sunday when the participants return to Miami.
