Gallery of the Week: Hot Singles

For good reason, David Gamble is proud of his 1989 Donzi 22 Colo Rosso (translation: Redneck) with MerCruiser 454 engine.

Although there aren’t a whole lot of them being built these days, there are still plenty of single-engine V-bottom sportboats in action. That became pretty obvious when we asked members of our Speedonthewater Friends Facebook group to post pictures of their single-mill—stern-drive or outboard—mono-hulls. The photos flooded in.

There are still plenty of single-engine V-bottoms on the water. Just check out the slideshow above.

The photos of models from 20 to 28 feet, from the likes of Scarab, Donzi, Baja, Nordic and more brought back memories of times of when single-engine sportboats were big sellers. While several builders still offer them, those days—for any number of reasons—are gone.

But many of the products that were once produced and sold in abundance remain in active duty.
