Grant’s Signature Racing Humming With Big Skater Projects And More

Though it’s only mid-January, Grant Bruggemann, Kellie Lee and the rest of the crew at Grant’s Signature Racing in Bradenton, Fla., have already left the holidays far behind in them. Bruggemann and company currently have three large Skater Powerboats catamarans and one small one undergoing various rigging, upgrade and service chores.

Grant’s Signature Racing has been busy with Skater catamaran rigging projects including 50 Shades—a 50-footer— and more (click image to enlarge).

“We just finished rigging work on Matt Rice’s custom eight-seat Skater 438 with Mercury Racing 1100 engines,” said Bruggemann. “And we removed the Mercury Racing 1350 engines out of Todd Fountains Tomcat, a 46-foot Skater, for refreshment.

“We’re also currently working on a facelift/tune-up of 50 Shades, a 50-foot Skater, and doing some dialing in on a 28-foot Skater.”

In addition to its Skater projects, Grant’s Signature Racing recently finished rigging on a 32-foot Doug Wright pleasure catamaran that went to a customer in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. “We should have the next one in a week or so,” said Bruggemann.

Though first race of the 2020 offshore powerboat racing is several months away, Bruggemann and his crew have already began prep work on the Pro Floors Racing MTI catamaran. Bruggemann throttled the 42-foot cat with New Zealand-based driver/owner Wayne Valder to a Supercat-class American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series title in 2019.

“We sent the engines to Kasse Racing Engines to be freshened up while we do a little spring cleaning on the old girl,” he said.
