Image of the Week, Part II: Blowing Past The Blowboaters

Under the category of, “This isn’t nearly as close as it looks” comes this Jay Nichols image from last week’s Super Boat International Key West Offshore World Championships. Long camera lenses that zoom in on the action make objects appear closer than they are, both to the photographer and one another.

Nichols caught this one during Saturday’s testing and practice session from the Pier House, one of his favorite Key West shooting perches. As you can see from the photo, the 48-foot Marine Technology, Inc., CMS offshore racing catamaran, which finished second overall in the Superboat Unlimited class, definitely caught the attention of the folks on the sailboat.

But we’re pretty sure that Bob Bull and MTI principal Randy Scism in CMS were too focused on what they were doing to notice them. Like the boats themselves, the people on board were headed in completely different directions with other destinations in mind.
