Image Of The Week: Legends In Miami

Yesterday’s “VIP Day” at the Miami International Boat Show lived up to its billing. From Steve Curtis and Marc Granet of the Miss GEICO outfit to former Mercury Racing leaders Fred Kiekhaefer and Erik Christiansen—now with Cigarette Racing Team—the docks and tents at the Miami Marine Stadium venue were loaded with big names in the go-fast boating world.

But no pairing of well-known industry figures topped that of Peter Hledin and Rich Luhrs. And speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden captured the two catching up at the Skater Powerboats exhibit. Hledin, the founder of the Douglas, Mich., custom high-performance powerboat company and Luhrs, a former boatbuilder, racer and broadcaster who recently became the American Power Boat Association Offshore Racing Commission chairman, go back several decades. They are dear friends.

Luhrs is a human powerboat racing and marine industry encyclopedia. Hledin is the greatest high-performance catamaran designer and builder of all time.

Both are legends, still making an impact, still relevant in high-performance powerboating world.

And we are honored to know them.
