Mercury Racing 450R Outboard Earns Innovation Award

Even the most incidental industry observers would have been shocked if Mercury Racing’s 450R outboard engine been passed over by the Boating Writers International judges for an Innovation Award during the 2020 Miami International Boat Show, which opened yesterday. But the supercharged, 4.6-litre V-8 outboard wowed the judges, just as it has captivated consumers, and they recognized it with a 2020 Innovation Award in the outboard engine category.

The news was announced in a press release this morning shortly after Stuart Halley, the general manager of the Fond du Lac, Wis., high-performance marine engine and accessories company, and other Mercury Racing staffers accepted the award.

“We are honored to win an Innovation Award for our new 450R outboard,” said Stuart Halley, Mercury Racing general manager, in the release. “The team at Mercury Racing has created a new benchmark for outboard performance, one that might have seemed unreachable just a few years ago.

“Clearly the Innovation Award judges recognized the technological innovation and sophistication built into the 450R,” he added.
