Image of the Week: Mystic Blues

Combine a sheet-glass, blue-water Lake Michigan morning in early September with a striking blue-and-white Mystic Powerboats C4400 catamaran under a blue-and-white Midwest sky. Then add photographer Pete Boden. The results are dazzling.

Conditions couldn’t have been better for Boden, who spent that day shooting the breathtaking 44-foot catamaran and its Mystic M4200 luxury center console cousin just north of Chicago. (Originally tagged the M3900, the model recently was renamed the M4200 to more accurately reflect its true specifications, according to Scott Sjogren of Shogren Performance Marine, Mystic’s global dealer in nearby Gurnee, Ill.) Stationed on a photo boat, the Florida-based shooter captured the two models roaring by him for hours.

The September shoot wasn’t Boden’s first go-round with the Mystic line on Lake Michigan. During a special early morning photo session for a summer issue cover of Speed On The Water digital magazine—download the issue at no charge now by clicking here—at the annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run in August, Boden captured a red and white Mystic C4400 cat putting on a show. Add that to his numerous images of Mystic’s 50-foot catamarans including Low Altitude and Envy, and it’s fair to say that Boden has more experience than anyone shooting the Mystic line.

And as the ace photographer agrees, it’s a great gig.
