Sunsation 32 CCX Water Test Goes Well, Set for FLIBS Debut

According to Joe Schaldenbrand of Sunsation Boats in Algonac, Mich., the company’s new 32-foot center console—the 32 CCX that sits between its 29 CCX and 34 CCX—performed flawlessly during a water test on Friday.

“I’ll tell you what, this boat is a home run,” Schaldenbrand said. “We just tested it and it’s 100-percent rock-solid. It’s stable and pretty fast—we got it up 75 mph, although it doesn’t have the T-top on it yet.”

Powered by twin Mercury Verado 350 engines, the 32-footer isn’t finished yet, but it will be in time for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in early November. As Schaldenbrand said, the T-top needs to be assembled and the interior needs to be completed before the first 32 CCX is ready to be displayed at the H/I Hi-Performance docks at the popular South Florida show.

The center console, which Schaldenbrand said accelerated unbelievably well with several people on board and reached plane in just a few seconds, is expected to be validated in less than two weeks by Tres Martin, the owner of the Tres Martin Performance Boat School who helped design Sunsation’s new model.

Schaldenbrand and everyone at Sunsation are elated to show off the 32-footer that they announced they were going to build a little more than a year ago. The boat features a 9-foot beam—the 29 CCX has an 8-foot beam and the 34 CCX has a 10-foot beam—and a very spacious cabin like that of the company’s 34-footer.

“I really feel like this boat is the right size for a lot of our customers,” said Schaldenbrand, who can point to the fact that seven 32 CCX models have already been ordered. He added that six of the first seven models in production will be powered by twin Verado 350 engines and that the remaining one will have twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines.
