Image of the Week: The Outerlimits Boys in Buffalo

Lost in grief about the death of Mike Fiore of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, I fumbled through the photos on my phone this morning and came across this one. And for the first time since I learned Tuesday evening of Fiore’s passing, I smiled.

Taken about three weeks ago, it captures Fiore (in red) chilling with three of his best friends in the world—Joe Sgro, Dan Kleitz and Steve Curtis (from left)—during the Buffalo Poker Run in New York. Though he was adaptable to any environment from Malta to North Carolina, Fiore was an East Coast guy to the core and he was never more relaxed than when he was in his native environs. And in more than 20 years of writing about him and the boats he built, I had never seen him more at home and at ease than he was in Buffalo.

Fiore was, as the expression goes, a man in full. He was happy.

If you want to remember Mike Fiore at his very best, save this shot and never, ever let it go. I won’t.
