Image of the Week: Three Times the Fun

In typical Jay Nichols’ fashion, the Naples Image photographer captured the essence of what’s fun about performance boating in this image of three stunning catamarans from Marine Technology Inc. (MTI) running side-by-side during the Texas Outlaw Challenge on Saturday.

In the foreground of the shot is Windship, a 48 MTI with twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines owned by Georgia’s John Woodruff. Woodruff’s personal Jet Ranger helicopter is what Nichols was flying in when he took the picture.

Behind Windship is Phantom, an eight-seat 48 MTI with twin 1350s, and Hellraiser, a 44 MTI with twin Mercury 1075SCi engines, both owned by Kenny Armstrong, who lives locally in Dickinson, Texas. Armstrong, who hosted a party at his home for everyone attending the event the day before (see the story), drove Phantom, while his son, Blake, drove Hellraiser.

All in all, more than 150 boats signed up for the event, which included 11 stops for the poker run, a few outstanding parties and lots of down-home southern hospitality.
