Wozencraft World Tour Photo Gallery No. 5: Scenes From The LEOPA Thunderfest Poker Run

It only took five events, but I finally got the whole family together for one of the stops on my 2018 national poker run tour in our outboard-powered 30-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran that effectively promotes our business, Wozencraft Insurance Agency, and reliably gets us from event to event.

Last weekend we enjoyed the LEOPA Thundefest Poker Run (read the recap story) together as I attended the event to Ohio’s Put-in-Bay for the second year in row. I’m happy to say that my wife and kids couldn’t have picked a better event to attend together this year, especially in comparison to last year when the Thunderfest was plagued by poor weather and water conditions.

That was far from the case this time around, and my family and all the friends I’ve made in the only boat club I’m a member of (I think I’m the member who lives the farthest away), had an incredible time soaking in the sun and enjoying the sights of Lake Erie.

I was thankful to have my family on hand as my son, who sings with The All-American Boys Chorus, was in China for three weeks. His group performed 11 concerts over there, then he got home on Tuesday, spent one night in his bed and then we left for Detroit the next morning. He was a trooper that’s for sure and he and my daughter had a great time touring the islands on Lake Erie.

On Friday—the day before the poker run—I was hoping to get in some more boating because the weather was so gorgeous, but my family outvoted me and we opted to do some sight seeing on Put-in-Bay. We rented a golf cart and toured the island.

We even went to the top of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, which opened in June 1915 after taking almost three years to build. The memorial, which is the world’s largest Greek Doric Column at 352 feet tall and the third tallest memorial in National Park Service, honors those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie, and the enduring peace between the United States, Great Britain and Canada. The views from the platform were incredible.

We also rented kayaks and did some “self-propelled” boating around the island, which was a lot of fun.

Then on Saturday, we participated in the poker run and had a blast. Saturday night’s awards dinner was super enjoyable, then we packed up Sunday and headed back to Fountains’ house where I’ve been staying all week.

It was definitely fun to see so many friends at the LEOPA Thunderfest Poker Run. As expected, there were some incredible boats on hand. One thing that surprised me was how many “older” Cigarette Racing Team models have been fully restored and look brand new. I’m serious, there had to be a dozen or more pristine Cigarettes.
