You probably have a healthy list of go-fast boat happenings you want to be part of during your life on the water. But there’s one thing you absolutely have to do off the water in order for your high-performance boating life and education to be complete.

Yes, they’re both under the giant publicly traded Brunswick Corp., umbrella and, yes, they both build marine engines in Fond du Lac, Wis. But for the most part, similarities between the two marine engine and accessories companies end there.

Start with location. The main Mercury Marine east campus is located along Interstate 41. One exit, a couple of roundabouts and a right turn will get you there. You can see it for miles.

Mercury Racing, on the other hand, is tucked away in the rolling hills on County Road UU. You can drive right by it if you’re not paying attention.

The best show at Mercury Marine Plant 15, which commands much of the company’s total 2.5 million square feet of manufacturing space, is the new production line currently ramping up for the new V-8 outboard engine platform that spans across multiple Mercury lines, including 250- and 300-hp models built for Mercury Racing.
