Key West Friday Race 2 Wrap-Up: Wire-To-Wire Win For Talbot

Super Boat International‘s Stock class is one of offshore powerboat racing’s most competitive categories under, but you wouldn’t have known that from this afternoon’s contest this afternoon during the second race of the day during the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla. After getting a good start, the Talbot Excavating team of driver/owner Kyler Talbot and throttleman Jay Muller ran away from the pack and held the lead for the duration of the event.

Throttleman Dan Lawrence driver Rob Nunziato chased hard in The Hulk/Redline Oil, a 32-foot Doug Wright cat, but couldn’t catch Talbot’s brand new Doug Wright 32-footer and finished second. Set up by Grant Bruggemann of Grant’s Signature Racing, the Talbot cat hit the water for the first time last week before heading to Key West.

In the two-boat Superboat Extreme class, the Hooters/Instigator team of driver John Stanch and throttleman Giancarlo Cangiano
continued its ways winning ways over throttleman Billy Glueck and driver/owner Brett Lee Furshman in Twisted Metal Motorsports. The Hooters/Instigator boat led wire to write over its fellow Fountain V-bottom competitor.

Editor’s note: SBI’s website lists three races today. There are are/were four: 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. (just completed), 1:30 p.m. (Superboat Unlimited—currently running with both CMS boats in the lead) and 2:30 p.m. (Superboat)
