King of Offshore Documentary to Air Tuesday on NBC Sports

The wait is finally over as the “King of Offshore: The Reggie Fountain Story” is scheduled to air on NBC Sports this Tuesday (Dec. 23) at 2:30 p.m. EST, according to American Performance Media‘s John Potts, who spearheaded the project after decades of covering Fountain and the sport of offshore racing.

“King of Offshore: The Reggie Fountain Story” will air on NBC Sports with a “Director’s Cut” version to follow on the documentary’s site.

Dubbed as “the story of one man’s domination of the extreme sport of offshore powerboat racing and the legacy of performance he left in his wake,” the documentary is expected to be informative, entertaining and—just like Reggie Fountain himself—captivating. Fountain, who won several world championships in both tunnel boat and offshore racing, is arguably the most iconic figure the sport has ever seen.

“This has been a project that has been in the works for more than a year—it took us that long just to get to the places and people we needed to make this documentary as comprehensive as possible,” said Potts, who expressed his gratitude toward Mercury Marine and Sunsation Boats for stepping up to support the project. “I think people are going to be impressed. The documentary is not just a historical story about Reggie, it also features many other people involved in the rise of offshore racing from Carl Kiekhaefer to Don Aronow. Don’s son Michael Aronow was especially helpful in the production of the documentary.

“We’re very excited to be able to share the documentary with boating enthusiasts worldwide on NBC Sports,” he continued. “After the one-hour broadcast airs, people will be able to visit kingofoffshore.com and view the full 90-minute Director’s Cut version. We’ll also be releasing shorter clips that didn’t make it in either cut since we collected so many great interviews and footage.”
