Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Raises The Bar Again With $357,000 In Donations

During a ceremony on Sunday afternoon at The Stables at Cannon Smoked Saloon in Sunrise Beach, Mo., the organizing committee behind the popular Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, which celebrated its 31st anniversary at the end of August, announced it was donating a record amount of money yet again.

This year the event upped its charitable contributions to a whopping $357,000, which was dispersed amongst 32 local charities and eight fire departments. Last year the event raised an impressive $300,000.

In total, according to Ron Duggan, who owns Captain Ron’s Bar And Grill, the inviting and expansive property that has hosted the Shootout since 2008, the event has raised 1.8 million dollars for local organizations since the top-speed showdown was moved from its original location, Shooters 21, to Captain Ron’s 12 years ago. And it’s been seven years since the event cracked the $100,000 mark for donations, and Duggan has been blown away by the steady growth.

“We have such an amazing group of people behind this event—not just the committee but the participants, the sponsors, the volunteers, the media, the local agencies and more,” Duggan said. “Event director Christy Janssen has done a great job. To complement the many events that take place during Shootout week, she’s created several new fundraising opportunities throughout the year, which have helped us grow the charitable side of the event tremendously.”
