Mystic 40 Cat Update: Hull Mold Complete
The hull mold for a new 40-foot high-performance catamaran from Mystic Powerboats is complete and the lamination process for the first model is scheduled to begin in early April. That’s the word from John Cosker, the owner and founder of the DeLand, Fla., custom boat company.
Mystic has finished the moldfor its new 40-foot catamaran and plans to start lamination of the first model early next month.
“The mold looks great—it’s perfect,” said Cosker. “All we have left to do is polish and buff it and we can begin lamination on the first two boats we have orders for.”
Cosker and his crew will begin laying up the first 40-footer, and perhaps even the second, without a finished deck tool. Mystic is in the process of building “a plug inside the mold” and the deck tooling will be constructed atop that mock mold so the real one can be used to begin lamination. Deck tooling should be completed by the end of May.
Cosker also said he recently finished a new dash design for a 50-foot catamaran he’s building for a client in California who does most of his boating on the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. The new design will be incorporated in pleasure versions of the 40- and 50-footers.
“I have a couple more clients interested in the 40, but they want to see it first, which I can understand,” said Cosker. “I’d like to sell and build two or three more this year.
“We’ve been busy so far this year,” he added. “The other day, I got to call Mercury Racing and order a pair of 700s, a pair of 1100s and a pair of 1350s for the 40- and 50-foot boats we’re building.”
The new catamaran will be available in an open-cockpit version called the C4000S, a high-performance canopied pleasure version called the C4000RS and a pure offshore racing version called the C4000R.
