New 450R-Powered Eliminator 27 Speedster Impresses New Owners

One of the latest Eliminator Boats models to leave the Mira Loma, Calif., factory—a gorgeous 27 Speedster powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R engines—proved to be extremely photogenic last weekend during a photo shoot with Lake Havasu City, Ariz.-based photographer Tom Leigh of Tommy Gun Images.

The 27-foot open-bow catamaran—named Ware I Wanna Be—also has proved to be an outstanding performer as it accelerates without hesitation according to the owners and has already reached 119 mph on a hot 110-degree day on Lake Havasu without much testing and setup time. Of course, it has one of the most impressive interiors to date in an Eliminator, which nowadays is almost expected with each new build the West Coast custom manufacturer produces, as well a full stereo system from Wet Sounds and a custom Shadow Trailers trailer with upgraded rims to match the boat’s colors. According to Jay Ware, whose parents, Ben and Judy Ware, have been enjoying performance boats for more than 25 years, the new boat is a more-than-suitable “last ride” for his parents to use on Lake Havasu and other lakes they plan to visit in the near future.

Over the years, Ware, who is the general manager of Ware Disposal in Santa Ana, Calif., said his family has owned a variety of offshore-capable boats, including a 29-foot Scarab and a Cigarette 38 Top Gun that they used to run in the Pacific Ocean often as members of SCOPE, the Southern California Offshore Powerboat Elite organization. Years ago they transitioned to more lake and river boating when they purchased a 28-foot Conquest Boats Top Cat deckboat. Now they have an Eliminator with the latest and greatest power plants hanging off the back, and they couldn’t be happier.

The owners are particularly delighted with the boat’s Alcantara interior.

“The 27 Speedster with twin 450Rs is incredible—it really is,” Jay Ware said. “We are continuing to work to get the boat to be comfortable for the everyday ride but reach the big number we think it can potentially get to with help from Eliminator and Mercury. It’s been a joy to use and run already, but we’ll continue to work to dial in the boat to see how much faster we can get it.”

Ware said his family has had a long-standing friendship with Bob Leach, his son, Brent, and the rest of the Leach family for many years but never owned one of the company’s boats.

“We’ve always wanted to share in the joy of owning an Eliminator,” he said. “With the new ownership, the new designs and the quality of craftsmanship, which maintains the company’s longstanding integrity and commitment to excellence, the timing was right to be able to work with the Eliminator family and build some new friendships along the way. We thoroughly enjoyed building the boat from start to finish. Between Jake Fraleigh, Eliminator’s president, and the rest of the team, everyone at Eliminator was fantastic to work with. While the process seemed long because everyone wants their boat tomorrow, the wait was well worth it. And I mean really worth the wait.

“The new designs and craftsmanship of the interior is of the highest quality,” he continued. “We love the custom designs and the small details that the team came up with. Working closely with Curt Jensen, who helped create the one-of-a-kind designs that personalized the boat for our family, was a pleasure. The Alcantara interior is fantastic and comfortable—the new seat designs really bring the boat to life. And because Eliminator’s interior team is all in-house, we were able to make changes on the fly before the designs were completed.”

Said owner Jay Ware of his new 27 Speedster, “It’s all business when you’re wanting quick acceleration.”

Ware added that his favorite part of the boat, which features unique GatorStep marine flooring with laser-etched propellers and monograms throughout, is the acceleration.

“The 450R writes a power prescription that combines unprecedented acceleration and top-speed potential with rugged reliability and the latest technology from Mercury Racing,” Ware said. “The twin supercharged power plants provide 40-percent more torque than the 400s so it’s all business when you’re wanting quick acceleration. There is no wait; there is no delay. It’s like a rocket ship.”

The Ware family also thanked Jody Hamilton of Hamilton Marine Finance for making the financing side of the deal friendly and smooth. While the boat, which recently received ceramic coating from Detail Specialties in Lake Havasu City to maintain its shine and keep the water spots to a minimum, will mostly “be creating havoc in Lake Havasu,” the family plans to take it to come other lakes this year and next and maybe even do a few poker runs.

Running hot or just sitting still, the Ware’s 27-footer is among the most stunning builds in recent Eliminator history.
