New Wright Performance Powerboats 360 Debuts at Lake of the Ozarks

Thanks to a new collaboration between High Tech Composites, the company behind Doug Wright Designs in Melbourne, Fla., and Performance Boat Center, the well-known dealership and service center in Osage Beach, Mo., the all-new Wright Performance Powerboats 360 catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines was on display at Wednesday night’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout on the Strip.

The new six-seat 36-foot catamaran, which was painted and rigged by the talented team at Performance Boat Center with interior courtesy of Kutting Edge in St. Louis, drew tons of attention from local passer bys to some of the most notable people in the go-fast boat community.

“We’re very excited to be working with Doug Wright Sr., and Doug Wright Jr., on the new Wright Performance Powerboats venture,” said Brett Manire, who co-owns Performance Boat Center with Mark Waddington. “We feel like this collaboration is a perfect mesh of each company’s talents and abilities. The reaction to the boat over the past couple of days has been phenomenal. We’re looking forward to showcasing it at our party (the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Welcome Party on Thursday night at Performance Boat Center).

“It really is an amazing boat,” Manire added. “We’ve run it up to 120 mph already and the performance is incredible. The boat feels so safe and comfortable. Its ride and handling is superior to anything I’ve experienced, as is its overall fit and finish.”

Doug Wright, Sr., who saw the boat for the first time Wednesday and took a ride in it today, said he was very impressed with it. “It does everything right,” he said. “We are going to make a few minor changes to it but nothing significant. Hull No. 2 is almost finished and No. 3 and 4 are coming down the pike. I think this collaboration is going to work well. Mark, Brett and Myrick (Coil) are great guys. We are excited to be working with them.”

According to Manire, Wright Performance Powerboats sold a few of the 36-footers, which weigh 5,500 before the first one was even finished. He said the vacuum-bagged e-glass epoxy/carbon-fiber boats are going to be constructed in Florida with the rigging, painting and interior being handled in Missouri, and that the next ones available should be ready in December or January.

“We’re expecting to get a new boat from them about every five weeks, and our turnaround time from there is eight weeks,” Manire explained, adding that the fully loaded boat is priced at $450,000 with an aluminum trailer from MYCO Trailers, Mercury Racing Cleaver propellers, billet jack plates, a 22-inch Garmin display and many other features that come standard. “Interested customers are going to be able to pick out the paint and interior colors.”

When asked if Performance Boat Center was going to delve into the raceboat market as well with the successful 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran, Manire said the focus is on the 360 only.

“Outboard-powered catamarans are hot right now and we think the Wright Performance Powerboats 360 is going to be a home run,” he said.
