Outboard-Powered Catamaran Order Boom Continues At Skater

That the newest Skater Powerboats build headed to Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and Super Cat Fest next week in Central Missouri is a 318 catamaran powered by Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard engines and owned Ron Szolack is indicative of what’s happening at the Douglas, Mich., custom high-performance catamaran and V-bottom company. According to Skater national sales manager Tony Cutsuries, the company has 10 orders for the popular 31-footer powered by Mercury Racing’s equally popular outboards.

The outboard-powered catamaran continues trend at Skater Powerboats.

“We are really busy right now,” said Cutsuries. “We cannot build boats fast enough right now, which is a good thing.

“We need more qualified people,” he added. “We are trying to hire more people.”

The 318 isn’t the only white-hot small catamaran being ordered from Skater. According to Cutsuries, the builder has several 28-footers ordered and in various stages of construction.

“We’re still doing bigger stuff like 388s and 368s, but the outboard boat orders are going crazy,” said Cutsuries, who is heading to the Lake of the Ozarks area next week and will be on hand for a Thursday morning speedonthewater.com photo shoot of Szolack’s 31-footer. “It’s a little hectic right now—but that’s a great problem to have.”
