Outerlimits SC 37 Ready For Newport Close-Up

The latest SC 37 catamaran to be completed by Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats could be the prettiest one yet. And thanks to a collaboration between the Bristol, R.I., company and Mercury Racing, which built the 450R outboard engines for the 37-footer, folks in Rhode Island this weekend for the Audrain Newport Concours and Motor Week event will get the first public look at it—and maybe even a ride in the new beauty.

In Newport, R.I., to promote Mercury Racing’s 450R outboard engines, the latest Outerlimits SC 37 catamaran is sure to turn heads. Photos by Halsey Fulton copyright Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats.

The boat is going to Rob Lockyer, who lives in United Kingdom and owns a business in Connecticut. Adpro Design of Massachusetts wrapped the cat in graphics created by Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design in Owensboro, Ky. Ryan Schwarzen of Rhode Island-based Kutting Edge took care of the catamaran’s interior.

“This is the first one we’ve done with white outboard engines and they go really well with the graphics and interior,” said Dan Kleitz, the national sales manager for Outerlimits. “The overall package is really nice and bright—it’s one of the nicest ones we’ve done so far.”

Outerlimits couldn’t have delivered a prettier boat to showcase this weekend.

As an event sponsor, Mercury Racing is in Newport to showcase its supercharged 450-hp V-8 outboards. That means Kleitz will be taking curious attendees, most of whom probably haven’t experienced a blast in a high-performance catamaran, on demo rides tomorrow—weather allowing. (Mercury Racing also brought in Tony Chiaramonte of Southern California-based DCB Performance Boats to run a DCB M37R Widebody catamaran owned by Upstate New York’s Ken and Renee Lalonde.)

But for its primary intended audience, the latest Outerlimits SC 37 cat will debut in the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run in early November.

“It will be at the sponsor docks in front of the Conch Republic restaurant all week,” Kleitz said.

Said Kleitz, “This is the first one we’ve done with white outboard engines.”
