Outerlimits Service Business ‘Slammed’

With a new 39-foot center console, a 36-foot sport catamaran, an outboard engine-powered 29-foot V-bottom and an entire rigid-inflatable-boat series in the works, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats isn’t lacking for new projects. But with the boating season fast-approaching and novel coronavirus restrictions beginning to relax in some parts of the Northeast, the Bristol, R.I., facility is flush with service work.

“We are slammed with powerboats of all and models,” said Dan Kleitz, the company’s sales manager. “Our service department has never been busier.”

“Even though we have a lot of boats in here, we have a big facility so social distancing within the service department, which is still required, isn’t a problem,” he added. “We’re getting work done.”

Current projects in the shop range from simple to complex. On the simple side, for example, the Outerlimits crew is handling minor paint repairs on a 46-foot Cigarette, which will leave with new cockpit and a travel covers. More complex is the total restoration of a 46-foot Outerlimits from a Canadian client. Cosmetic modifications include new upholstery, cabin and cockpit carpet and paintwork. The 46-footer’s Mercury Racing 1075 SCi engines have been sent out for rebuilds. Wilson Custom Marine is blueprinting its No. 6 drives.

In all, the company has nine Outerlimits models currently being serviced or on their way to the shop for service. Also in house for work are a 33-foot Baja, a 35- and 42-foot Fountains and the aforementioned 46-foot Cigarette.

“Of course, we take great care of our Outerlimits family of customers,” said Kleitz. “But we offer a wide range of excellent service for all of customers, regardless of what brand of boat they own.”
