Performance Boat Center ‘Pulling Out All the Stops’ for Lake of the Ozarks Shootout

In what has become standard operating procedure for Performance Boat Center, the full-service new and pre-owned powerboat dealership in Osage Beach, Mo., is going big with plans for the upcoming Lake of the Ozarks Shootout (Aug. 23-28). “We’re pulling out all the stops,” said Brett Manire, who co-owns the company with his business partner, Mark Waddington.

The Performance Boat Center-related action begins with Wednesday night’s Shootout on the Strip street party sponsored by Waves and Wheels. The dealership will have several Cigarette Racing Team, Sunsation Boats and Skater Powerboats models on display, including a Skater 426 catamaran with a paint job designed and executed completely in house at Performance Boat Center. The boat’s new graphics package is being kept under wraps until its street party debut that evening.

“We decided to repaint it after the Save Our Troops Poker Run (read the story),” Manire said. “We have been giving teasers, but we haven’t released it yet.”

Performance Boat Center’s still-undefeated—at this writing—Superboat-class Skater 388 offshore raceboat also will be on display during the street party, as well as during the dealership’s annual open house, which begins at 6 p.m., on Thursday evening. (Either late that night or early Friday morning, the boat will begin the 740-plus-mile haul to compete in the inaugural Super Boat International race in Mentor, Ohio, on Sunday.) As it did last year, Performance Boat Center will host the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Auction during the open house and have several boats on display, including two DCBs—the latest M41 Widebody and the jaw-dropping Lickity Split M35 Widebody accompanied by its over-the-top SportChassis.

“The open house has been such a huge hit for us,” Manire said. “Last year, we hosted the auction for the first time and I think it ended up being the most money raised in the auction’s history. We’re hoping to make it even better and raise even more money this year.”

Manire said he plans to run the company’s demo model 2016 Cigarette 41 GTR center console powered by four Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard engines “for at least two stops” during Friday’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Poker Run. Organizing the move of 14 boats from the dealership to Captain Ron’s—the host venue for the Shootout—will consume the rest of his Friday.

Performance Boat Center’s powerboat showcase at the Captain Ron’s docks for the weekend will include two recently sold Princess Yachts models.

“The gentlemen who purchased the 52 and the 39 are graciously loaning us their boats to display,” Manire said.
