Performance Boat Center Takes Supercat Racing National Title
Consisting of six teams, the Supercat Racing organization—an owners group founded this year—had its own internal National Championship points system based on the Offshore Powerboat Association Lake Race, the Sarasota Offshore Powerboat Grand Prix, the Race World Offshore Mentor Grand Prix, the Super Boat International Michigan City/Great Lakes Grand Prix, the RWO Dunkirk Grand Prix and the SBI Clearwater National Championships. And with three first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and one fifth-place finish, the Performance Boat Center team emerged as the Supercat Racing National champion.

“The owners and team members wanted make sure we had a points system spread over six races rather than just a few races, and we ended up winning,” said Myrick Coil, who drives the team’s Sterling Performance engines-powered Skater Powerboats 388 catamaran—currently for sale as MTI is building a new raceboat for the Missouri-based PBC crew—with throttleman John Tomlinson. “I’m not saying that winning a world championship in Key West (Fla.) is easy—it’s not at all—but it’s way harder to win the Supercat Racing National Championships with all the travel and all the logistics involved. So we’re very proud of this accomplishment.”
The 2018 SBI Superboat-class world champion team, WHM Motorsports finished second in Supercat Racing national championship points, and the M-Con team, which currently is building a new Skater raceboat, finished third.
Coil added that he’s looking forward to running the team’s new MTI raceboat with Tomlinson.
“There are always jitters when you make a change like this, but I’m pumped,” he added. “Not only will this be a new boat for us, there are a lot of new things happening with it. And it’s not a smaller boat being expanded to become a bigger boat, it’s a bigger boat being cut down to become a smaller boat. But I’m always excited to run a boat with Johnny and I’m confident we’ll do well next season.”
