Performance Boats to Produce Go-Fast Boat Television Series

Teaming up with Lucas Oil, which owns the MAVTV television network currently available on the Dish Network, Performance Boats TV—the video arm of Performance Boats magazine—will create a “high-end series about recreational powerboating,” according to a press release on the magazine’s popular website. The series is contingent on the success of the first nationally syndicated show, according to the release. If the “powers that be like the product,” subsequent shows will be produced.

The 2012 Desert Storm event next month will provide the back-drop, as well as much the drama, for the first episode in the series.

MAVTV reportedly has more than 40 million viewers, and much of its programming focuses on motorsports. In addition to producing two nationally aired television episodes on Offshore Super Series powerboat races two years ago, Performance Boats has generated thousands of hours of online go-fast boating videos, from boat reviews to interviews with key high-performance marine industry figures.

As it has in the past, Performance Boats will work with five-time Emmy award-winning producer Gary Meeker on the show. The final format for the show has not yet been determined.

“The show centers around the Performance Boat team and the stresses and adventures of dealing with deadlines for the magazine and the event, the various personalities involved and just getting people from Point A to Point B,” said Chris Davidson, the founder and publisher of Performance Boats magazine. “The show will also focus on live coverage of the events we go to and cover.’

The first episode of the show is slated to air in July and will focus on the happenings in and around the Desert Storm event in April
