Though their paths rarely crossed last weekend in Clearwater, Fla., speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden and contributing writer/photographer Cole McGowan did an outstanding job of covering Race World Offshore’s first race of the 2021 season. Boden drove to the event, the seventh of eight races in the 2021 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series fresh from shooting the concurrent Florida Powerboat Club Emerald Coast Powerboat Week Poker Run in Destin, Fla., and captured the racing action from a turn-boat.

McGowan kept his feet on dry land, a must for a reporter facing a Monday morning story deadline.
But both of our teammates came back with great images of racers from their individual vantage points. For Boden, that translated to racers idling past his perch holding their checkered flags. For McGowan, it meant strolling the wet and dry pits on Saturday and Sunday and capturing mostly candid images of the competitors.

The combined efforts of Boden, who has been with speedonthewater.com for years, and McGowan, who took on the offshore racing beat for us this year, have produced unmatched coverage of the sport this season. Next up for them is the final race of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, October 7-9 in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.
After that, they’re off the hook for a month until our entire team descends on Key West, Fla., November 7-14, for the Race World Offshore-produced APBA Offshore World Championships.
