Pier 57 Bringing Go-Fast Boat Sizzle to Local Show

Though Scott Sjogren and his crew at the former Shogren Performance Marine dealership in Waukegan, Ill.,  have participated in the Harbor Days Festival and Boat Show at North Point Marina in Winthrop Harbor, Ill., for several years, this weekend they’ll be there under the Pier 57 umbrella. And that means, because Pier 57 is a Cigarette and Marine Technology, Inc., dealer, the show will feature two pre-owned Cigarette models and one pre-owned MTI in the water.

Pier 57 is the only high-performance powerboat dealer displaying at the show.

The 46' Cigarette is one of four models Pier 57 will display at the boat show, which starts tomorrow.

“The show actually is put on by Skipper Bud’s, which is a big Sea Ray dealer,” said Scott Sjogren, who co-owns Pier 57 with David Woods. “They invite us to participate every year.

“I wanted to bring new Cigarettes and MTIs to this show, but they’re all sold,” he continued. “That’s a good problem to have.”

In all, Pier 57 will have four high-performances boats in the water for “potential” sea trials: a 46’ Cigarette, a 39’ Cigarette, a 39’ MTI and a 38’ Nor-Tech. (The dealer also will have models from Cobalt and Cruises at the docks.) Sjogren said he expects approximately 1,000 visitors to “pass through” the show between Friday and Sunday.

“It’s been a really good show for us in the past,” Sjogren said. “Last year, we brought five boats and sold four of them. All of our boats are in the water, and people really seem to like that.

“This is the only regional show Pier 57 does,” he added. “For us, a ‘regional show’ is a poker run.”
