Poker Run And Offshore Race Combo On Tap For July Down Under

With the addition of a poker run to their July 19-21 roster of activities and a new six-kilometer racecourse, the producers of the Australian Offshore Superboat Series stop in Bowen, Queensland, are hoping the event will attract racers from the United States. That’s the word from veteran Australian racer and occasional speedonthewater.com contributor Conn Saloumidis.

A poker run and an offshore powerboat race on the same weekend in July are on tap at the Bowen stop on the Australian Offshore Superboat Series.

“We are putting out an invitation out to all offshore racers from the U.S.A.,” he said. “If they would like to attend our poker run in Bowen I will pay their poker run entry fee, and get them on a local boat.”

According to a press release from the organizers of the Great Poker Run, the poker-run boats “will be taken on a magical tour of some of the best places in the Whitsundays” on Saturday. The races are set for Saturday (July 20) at 1 p.m. and Sunday (July 21) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The poker-boats will have a special private mooring area with an excellent view of the course, according to the release.

Supercat Inboard-class teams slated to appear so far include Maritimo 11 and 12, Dynamic Excavation and The Judge. SupercatOutboard-class team set to compete include The Hulk, Saracen, SUV SIMRAD and Team 88.
